Diastasis Recti is a separation of the “six pack” muscles that run down the front of the abdomen. It happens when the pressure on the front of abdomen becomes too great for the deep abdomen muscles to hold in. The belly presses forward, causing a lengthening between the ribs and the pelvis at the front, usually accompanied by a shortening at the back. This can be, but not exclusively, during pregnancy. Forward tilted pelvis can also lead to diastasis. Symptoms include protruded belly, especially when straining, lower back pain, poor posture, constipation or incontinence. The answer is to retrain the lowest layer of abdominal muscles to reduce the pressure no the rectus, and retrain the pelvis back into a neutral position. Contact me if you want to find out more
