There’s a huge overlap between the two but essentially yoga has standing postures and flowing movement interspersed with holding positions, creating flexibility and strength.
Whereas Pilates is a series of consecutive exercises lying down, to build core strength and flexibility.
Yoga dates back over 5000 years and pilates is newer, just 100 years.
Yoga practice includes relaxation and incorporates mindfulness and self understanding and compassion, whilst pilates enables a deeper body understanding and connection enabling you to forget the outside world for a while.
